Flying with Baby: Air Travel During the Covid-19 Pandemic…

This post is sponsored by Baby Riddle boutique.

The COVID-19 pandemic is still upon us, but many countries are allowing air travel for those who need to go home and be with their families. Whether or not you’re a frequent flyer, adding a baby into the mix amid the pandemic can make things a bit more challenging. You need to consider several factors to make sure that you have a smooth journey and your family stays safe.

Here’s how you can pull off family air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic:

Before heading to the airport, make sure that you adequately prepare, including researching all of the legal requirements that you need to present before being allowed entry into the airport. For air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic, some places require incoming travelers to show a negative COVID-19 test, complete with a valid certification from an accredited health clinic. This must be presented within a given timeframe. In general, babies do not need to undergo COVID-19 testing, but remember to check the rules for your destination anyway. Failing to do this could result in you and your entire family getting stuck at the airport.

Use the Power of Technology

As the pandemic forced people to stay at home, technology became more essential than ever in our lives. When traveling, almost everything can be done online, including boarding passes. Keep all devices adequately charged and bring fully-charged portable power banks. Some airlines provide online check-in services that allow you to complete your security check-in while you are still at home and even offer luggage collection. For air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic, it helps to not have to spend so much time in the airport with your baby.

Pack the Right Clothes

Babies are not as good at regulating temperature as adults. Take into consideration that getting the right clothes for your baby should be mandatory. Keeping them warm should be on top of your mind while at the airport. Similarly, you should also make sure to pack appropriate clothes they can wear when you land at your destination. For air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic, when it comes to masks, babies under two are not required to wear one. However, you should make sure that they will have enough of a covering to protect them from other people you may interact with at the airport and during the flight.

Choose Seats Appropriately

As a general rule of thumb, you should avoid getting seats that are near the restrooms if you want to minimize contact with other passengers on board. If you will have your child on your lap, getting a window seat would be best. It will also help if you can change your baby’s diapers before boarding, so you won’t need to change the diapers while in flight. If you need to use an airplane bassinet, please read the guide here.

Pack Sanitary Essentials

Even prior to air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic, flying with a sanitary kit is a necessity. When you are with a baby, you have to make sure that you have enough wipes. Don’t forget to sanitize your seats, including the armrests, tables, and screen, as you get to your designated place. Pack them in your bag where you can easily reach for them. Remember to use sanitizers to clean the baby’s toys should they touch any surfaces in the plane.

Final Thoughts on Family Air Travel During the Covid-19 Pandemic

It’s risky to fly while COVID-19 persists, so only travel by air when necessary, and consider road trips as an option before flying. All leisurely vacations that require travel by air should be postponed until the pandemic has ended. However, if you need to go home or attend to personal matters with your baby in tow, make sure to keep these things in mind to keep the whole family safe and happy during the trip.
