The Best Ontario Resorts for Families with Babies & Toddlers
Are you a Torontonian in need of a break, or a visitor looking to experience Ontario nature? The variety of Ontario resorts and cottage rentals available that are beautiful and baby-friendly means an escape is possible for every member of your family.
Here are some Ontario (and Western New York!) family resorts we’ve personally stayed at…
Ontario Resorts for Families in Grey County:
Blue Mountain
Blue Mountains, ON
We are not skiiers so I had no desire to visit Blue Mountain. But when I learned about everything Blue Mountain has going on during “green season” (the summer months), it was definitely time to visit one of Ontario’s largest resorts.
Ontario Resorts for Families in Haliburton County:
Pinestone Resort & Conference Centre
Haliburton, ON
We stayed at the Pinestone Resort & Conference Centre during the holidays when we were skiing at Sir Sam’s in Haliburton. The bed & breakfast package was very affordable and the breakfast was delicious. Our stay was very affordable and the Pinestone is good value.
We were kind of hoping for a place with a bit more winter-y charm and possibly outdoor skating, but there isn’t a lot of choice in the area. Pinestone Resort was a great spot to relax after a busy day of skiing.
The room was your typical hotel room size, with two double beds. Now that my kids are older we would need to book adjoining rooms, since my children are the size of adults!
Ontario Resorts for Families in the Kawarthas:
Elmhirst Resort
Keene, Ontario
This large, family-owned Ontario resort has many, many accommodation options for families with babies and toddlers. Keene is also a really short drive from Toronto; WELL under 90 minutes from the centre of the city (depending on traffic, of course).
We stayed in a 3-bedroom cottage that was basically a house. The bonus here being that, unlike most private cottage rentals, we did not have to lug up our towels and bedlinens and there was an amazing restaurant for takeout if we didn’t feel like cooking.
Here is my son’s write-up on why he enjoyed our stay at Elmhirst’s Resort.
Viamede Resort
Woodview, ON
We have stayed at the Viamede Resort several times now and my family absolutely loves it.
The first time we stayed in one of the cottages and the second time we were in two adjoining guest rooms. Although I suffer from summer cottage envy from time to time, we actually preferred staying in the guest rooms! It felt more vacation-y as we did not have to tidy up the kitchen 🙂

Ontario Resorts for Families in Muskoka:
Delawana Resort
Honey Harbour, ON
For many years, Delawana Resort was known as the Delawana Inn, and that was what it was called when we stayed there. Delawana was also unique in that it was one of Ontario’s only all-inclusive resorts.
Shamrock Bay Resort
Severn Bridge, ON
We had a wonderful stay at Shamrock Bay Resort one summer, and it very nearly changed my mind about vacation property ownership!
Ontario Resorts for Families in Orillia & Lake Country:
Fern Resort
We’ve come to think of Fern Resort as our resort. Just a 90-minute drive from our door and it truly feels like an All-Inclusive vacation without the air travel hassle. Our kids love it, we love it, and probably our favourite visit was in the winter, between Christmas and New Year’s.
For a truly relaxing vacation that’s not far from Toronto, Fern Resort is an excellent choice.
The Irwin Inn
**Sadly the Irwin Inn has closed 🙁
The Kawarthas feels like home to me – our summer getaways when I was growing up usually involved the 401 Eastbound instead of the 400 North. That’s why I was so delighted to visit The Irwin Inn, on Stoney Lake. Approximately 2.5 hours from Toronto, you’re worlds away in your own cottage or room with meals included and a gorgeous lake to swim in or boat across. We loved it.
Western New York Resorts:
Darien Lake
If you’ve grown up in Toronto, you may have wondered about this mythical place across the border, in the land of Carvel Ice Cream and Celino & Barnes Attorneys at Law. Our stay at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort was super fun, and it’s a very affordable theme park getaway for every member of your family.
Holiday Valley
Ellicottville, NY
I was so wonderfully, pleasantly surprised by how awesome Ellicottville, New York is. What a year-round treasure hidden in Western New York!
