Travel Tips Revisited: Looking Back At Have Baby Will Travel

Have Baby Will Travel’s Original Banner…

The original tag line for Have Baby Will Travel was “tips on trips for moms by moms (and dads too!)”. I’ll grant you, it’s totally a bit corny, but the goal was always to create content and a community that would help families travel with babies, travel with toddlers, and travel with young children. While the vision remains the same, this year I’ve revised the mission statement:

Have Baby Will Travel’s mission is to motivate, inspire and help families travel with their babies, toddlers, and young children.

Same thing, really… just sounds a lot slicker 😉

The peeps at Tripbase have created a meme called #My7Links, and I was invited to participate by the lovely Amy of Pit Stops For Kids. I will now cull the vast archives of Have Baby Will Travel to bring you seven links that may very well be lost in the Interwebs…

playa pilar, beach, cayo guillermo, cuba

Most Beautiful Post:
A Day Trip To Cuba’s Playa Pilar… When I look at this post, I am instantly transported back to that wonderful day spent on the beach with my family. It was a little windy and cool, but the colours were as vibrant as you see in the pictures. Click on the pics to see them a little bigger – I’m constantly reminded how lucky I am to have a photography nut for a husband.

Most Popular:
Have Stroller Will Travel: The Worst… I’m a little surprised by this, and also a little mortified since the photo also features my hideous backyard. But I stand by conviction that there is no such thing as a cheapie umbrella stroller that’s easy to travel with!

Most Controversial:
In Defense Of Traveling Parents… This post was a bit of a departure for me, as until then I avoided controversy. The whole point of Have Baby Will Travel is to help people travel with their babies, not to debate whether or not they should… (they should!). This post was kind of like my Network moment, I was mad as Hell and I couldn’t take it anymore! Now I do comment on these types of controversy-baiting articles, as I don’t want anyone to be deterred because of a few cowards spouting off behind a keyboard.

Most Helpful:
Carry-On Packing List… I’d like to think that ALL the content on Have Baby Will Travel is helpful, but this is one of the most popular articles on the site and I’d like to think that it actually helps people! It’s been recently updated to include smartphones and tablets (because, you know, I now embrace technology!)

top headphones, best headphones for toddlers, toddler headphones, baby travel gear

Most Surprising Success:
Top Headphones For Travel With Toddlers… I decided this year to feature more information on the gear that makes my traveling life a lot easier, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I love these headphones and wish they came in grown-up sizes. Although, they do fit on my head.

Least Attention (But Deserved):
What She Remembers… This is a real departure for me, and the only reason I published it is because the person whose site I wrote it for wasn’t interested in it. I did get lots of lovely comments on it, but it’s kinda personal and doesn’t really fit in with the usual content. When I read it, though, I actually do love it.

Most Proud Of:
The First Trip Is The Toughest... Because I love traveling with my kids so much, it’s really easy for me to be all “Rah Rah Travel With Baby Is Fun And Easy…” But the truth is, it’s not always sunshine and palm trees. For me lately, it’s been vomit and horrific gashes requiring stitches (don’t ask, coming soon). With this post I think I actually convey the beauty of travel with baby, but also how tough it can be.

So now it’s my turn to nominate five people to share their 7 links…

Let’s hear it from:
Nadia from Child Mode
Heather from Globetrotting Mama
Jennifer from At Home In The World
Dana at Ciao Bambino
Karine at Accompanied Minors

I can’t wait to read your Seven Links!

I am loving reading all these seven post memes from my favorite travel bloggers. It’s such a great way to get to know the people you read every day even better. I loved, loved, loved ‘What She Remembers’. It gave me chills. You should write much more like that. I was incredibly inspiring and touching. Thanks for sharing.
