Maybe it’s because I’m a first generation Canadian born to a Scottish lassie and an Englishman… Maybe it’s because growing up I spent almost every August in the UK… Or maybe it’s because I’ve been completely addicted to Coronation Street since I was about 12… Anyhoo, I’m a total anglophile. Have Infant Car Seat Without Base, Will Travel...

This past weekend I was attending a travel writer’s conference in New York City – sans kids. Although I was having a good time and learning a lot, I was also pining for the two small people I left at home with their daddy. As a result, I gravitated to the lovely Brandy Keener, who along with her husband, had traveled to New York from Oregon with their adorable 8-week-old son, Kai.

Now when my first-born was 8 weeks, I think I was still stumbling around in my maternity wear and intermittently crying for no reason, so I completely admire Brandy and her husband for picking up and carrying on with little Kai along for the ride.  They mentioned an issue with a cab driver that I found pretty surprising for a couple of reasons…

Many will argue that co-sleeping is the easiest bet for traveling with tots, and if co-sleeping works for you, they’re right.  However, co-sleeping for us always worked out more like co-getting-kicked-in-the-face-and-want-to-chat-in-the-middle-of-the-night-so-therefore-not-sleeping.  When traveling, sometimes you luck out with a King-sized bed that makes for a bit more room, but sometimes you end up with a double that sags to the floor and is just barely a safe sleeping environment for an adult, never mind an infant.
